Poured Out Like a Drink Offering

Several years ago I was studying the letter Jesus told John to write to the church of Laodicea. As I read Jesus word's saying, "I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other!" I thought about so many sermons I had heard on these verses interpreting them to mean that it would be better for someone to have a cold attitude toward the things of God than to be lukewarm toward Him. This didn't set right with me because the scriptures tell us that every word should be established in the mouths of two or three witnesses, and I couldn't find another verse indicating that God wanted anyone to have a cold attitude towards Him. As I studied the Greek words, I began to see these verses in a different way from how I had been taught--a way that did line up with the rest of the scriptures. I prepared a Sunday school lesson around this understanding and I've delivered it to several classes over the years. My newest meditation, Poured Out Like a Drink Offering, allows you to explore these truths with me and apply them to your life in contemplative worship.

After nearly eleven months of silence, I'm pleased to finally present this new Christian guided meditation. I appreciate how so many of you have posted comments and sent me emails with kind words of encouragement letting me know how much you appreciate the ministry here. Each of you have been a driving force in making sure this ministry didn't totally fall by the wayside. I've made a commitment to myself to begin publishing one new guided Christian medition each week. This is a very time consuming task for me. If you appreciate the ministry here, please pray for me to be able to continue this pace and improve the quality of the meditations as I go. And don't forget to keep the words of encouragement coming by posting your comments or sending emails.

Hello Ricky, I particularly like this meditation because it concentrates on our reponse to God. You see so often in church we are taught to worship the Lord, to submit our prayers and to ask for what we need but how often are we taught that what we should be doing is give to the Lord.

This concept of our life being as a drink offering of praise and worship to the Lord is wonderful. I have often wanted to explain to others that we should go to the Lord to worship him for himself and not just ask for things, but I could not put it into words as such without seeming to be judgemental so I refrained. Your teaching is definately God lead with a good visual concept of the refreshing drinks or the not so wonderful to taste drink offerings that we bring to him…as a way to explain our praises and attitudes to God.

Thank you for this teaching. I look forward to listening to many more and perhaps you could do an extended teaching on the holiness of the Lord which seems to be lacking today, as usually it is given in the form of rules and regulations to follow, or how we should behave….. but the Lord is worthy of all our praise for he is Holy and I would love to meditate on his holiness through a guided meditation so that i can learn of his holiness and appreciate him more.

I appreciate your knowledge and studying of the bible, your understand makes my soul sing.

    God bless,

EJ – Thank you so much for all you kind words. I think that, “your understanding makes my soul sing,” is one of the highest words of praise I’ve ever received. I’m continually humbled that God chooses to use this work in such a way. Thanks again!

Thank you for sharing. You have no idea how humbled we are when we hear how God is working in the lives of the Mindful Worship community. My heart and prayers go out to you and your family.

    My Lord and my God,
This morning I lift Elizabeth and her family up to you and pray for Your healing touch. I pray for Elizabeth’s doctors and pray you will give them wisdom and caring as they minister to her. Praying with the belief that You are the Great Physician.

I also pray that You will provide strength, comfort, courage, joy, and peace to Elizabeth. Help her as she fights this battle and continues to do the important work of being a mom. Elizabeth is not fighting this alone, You are with her every step of the way and I thank you and praise you for always being there, even when we can’t feel Your presence.

Thank you for the opportunity today brings. In Jesus name.
