Mindful Worship Meditation #21 – Have Mercy On Me O God

Mercy: Something to be thankful forPsalm 51 is David’s prayer of repentance after he sinned by committing adultery with Bathsheba and having her husband Uriah killed. We all have sin in our lives because we have a sin nature. Although we don’t like to often think about our sin, it is the reason Jesus came and died for us. In this meditation you will identify a specific sin from your own life and then apply David’s words to that sin in your life to help you grow more into God’s image. Have Mercy on Me, O God.

When I originally began to write this meditation, I was only going to do a few particular verses from this Psalm. As I meditated on it in my own life though, I realized that every line holds life-changing truth that Christians need to seriously contemplate and apply to their lives. A single meditation would probably be more than an hour long though, so I decided to present it in a three-part series. This is the first of those three parts. I am now planning to do more series type meditations that will build and elaborate on each other and allow us to go deeper into the study and personal application of God’s Word. Mindful Worship Meditation #19 – For God So Loved

John 3:16 is probably the most well known and most loved Bible verse in the world. In only a few words, it encapsulates the entirety of the gospel. You may have committed it to memory, but have you ever really meditated on it? Have you chewed on this verse like a sheep chews grass to get every bit of flavor and nutrition from it that you can? In this meditation, we’ll contemplate this verse in small sections, allowing God to reveal to you meaning and application for your life—for God so loved.

Although most of my listeners have probably already accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior, it’s possible that you may not have. Mindful Worship Meditation #18 – Support from Zion

It has been said that in our Christian walk we are all either in a battle, have just finished a battle, or are about to enter a battle. Psalm 20 was written as a song to be sung as an encouragement to David, the other soldiers, and the Israelite people before, during, and after battles. It is a wonderful song that asks God for help, acknowledges Him as our helper, and praises him for helping us.

You may choose to apply this psalm as a prayer for yourself concerning a spiritual battle you are involved in, to prepare you for an upcoming spiritual battle, or to praise God for victory in a past spiritual battle. You may also choose to use it as a guide to pray for someone else who is in any of those situations right now. Regardless of how you apply this Psalm, may He grant you support from Zion.

Mindful Worship Meditation #17 – When You Are Tempted

This is the shortest meditation I’ve recorded so far. I was thinking about how all of us are tempted to do the wrong things at times, but how often do we stop to meditate on God’s word when we are in that situation, and especially what He has said about temptation. I realize that you won’t always be able to listen to this when you are tempted, but by meditating on, and even memorizing, the scriptures in this meditation, you will be more prepared for those times when you are tempted.
Although this meditation is written to help in general times of temptation, I’m considering producing more short meditations along the lines of this one that help us as believers when we encounter specific temptations. There is no way to create meditations that relate to every possible temptation, but I may be able to write some that addresses the most common. Leave me a note in the comments if you would like to see more of these short meditations that address particular areas of temptation, and what temptations you most feel need to be addressed in this manner.

Mindful Worship Meditation #16 – I Am the True Vine

Grapevine in VinyardJesus included such great imagery in so much of his teaching. While the people he taught understood very well the objects and metaphors he used, today we may have to use our imagination when studying his words. An excellent example of this is when he taught his disciples,. I am the True Vine.

In this Christian guided meditation, I’ll help you to meditate on this passage and apply it as the disciples may have. If you are not familiar with vineyards and grapevines, you may find that the picture here will help you better understand Christ’s metaphor. Mindful Worship Meditation #15 – Guard Your Heart

My pastor recently finished a sermon series entitled Password. In this series, he talks about how we protect so much of our personal information with passwords, yet we don’t have a password to keep harmful things away from what matters most: our heart, our soul, and our mind. This meditation was inspired by one of those sermons. I hope it helps you to guard your heart.

Mindful Worship Meditation #14 – Think About Such Things

It is so easy to think bad thoughts. You know what I’m talking about. We think about bad outcomes instead of good outcomes. We think about ourselves and our own desires instead of others. We worry. We become anxious. We become negative. There are so many ways we make ourselves suffer from what one author called, “stinkin’ thinkin’.” In this Christian guided meditation you will take time to focus on Paul’s exhortation to the church at Philippi on how they should endeavor to think. “whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”

Learning to think in this manner has had a major positive effect on my own life, and I’m sure it will have a positive effect in yours as well. As always, I welcome your comments.

Mindful Worship Meditation #13 – Jehovah-Shalom, The Lord Is Peace

Grace and peace to you, dear listeners! We are living in turbulent times. But even when everything around us is in turmoil, we can have peace in our hearts through the Lord Jesus Christ because of our relationship with Him. This meditation allows you the opportunity to find a sanctuary in Christ in the midst of your trials as you worship God as Jehovah Shalom, The Lord Is Peace.

Some of you have written to me requesting more meditations that are a little bit shorter in time. Although this meditation is less than sixteen minutes long, I believe it will provide a nice opportunity for you to experience God’s peace in the midst of a hectic day or any trial in your life. Mindful Worship Meditation #12 – Lord, Teach Us to Pray

Most of us learn the Model Prayer, or the Lord’s Prayer, early in our Christian walk. Many years ago, I was taught to use this as an outline for my own time of prayer. When I pray without using this model, I tend to focus on petitioning God for things either in my own life, or the lives of others, and my prayers tend to be rather short. However, when I follow this model, I’m quite often surprised at how long I’ve prayed and find myself wanting to spend more time in prayer. Through this guided Christian meditation, you will spend two-minutes silently praying in each of the six different areas Christ outlines in this model prayer. In total you will share more than 12-minutes of quality prayer time with him. Lord, teach us to pray.

Mindful Worship Meditation #11 – I Have Stilled and Quieted My Soul

This week I was reading some of the shortest Psalms. With only 3 verses, Psalm 131 is certainly one of the shortest. When I noticed the beginning of the second verse, I knew I wanted to spend some serious time meditating on this particular passage. As I contemplated the passage line by line I began to identify areas of pride in my life and then repented as God brought those areas to light. After coming clean before my Lord, I was able to rest in his presence like a child would rest in the arms of a parent. With full trust in God, rather than myself, I could clearly see a new hope for the future in Christ. When I come into God’s presence with simple child-like faith, surely, I have stilled and quieted my soul.
