Mindful Worship Meditation #1 – A Tree and Its Fruit

Here is the first guided Christian meditation that I wrote and recorded. I was participating in a small group Bible study and we were tasked with reading, and studying, five different passages before our next meeting. One of those passages was Luke 6:43-45, where Jesus talks about a tree and its fruit.

As I studied this passage, I found myself meditating on it. I repeated short sections of it over and over in my mind. As I thought about particular phrases, other supporting scriptures came to mind, and I thought about them as well. Mostly, I though about how this all applied to me. God used this time of meditation to challenge me to evaluate different areas of my life.

As I meditated, I thought about the people in my small group and in my Sunday School class. I wondered how many of them regularly meditate on the scriptures, and if they had ever been taught to meditate. This prompted me to dig into the Word and see what God had to say about the discipline of meditation. That study became a lesson that I taught to my Sunday School class and I concluded the lesson by guiding them through a meditation much as I would do on my own.

The people in my Sunday School class seemed to really enjoy it, and several of them asked if I could record it. I did record it for them. Here is that original meditation, much as I presented it to the class that first time. I would recommend that you listen to it during a time when you will not be disturbed and you can focus on God’s Word.

  1. Keep up the great work. This is needed so much and is difficult to find online. Thank you again.

  2. Doing regular practice in home and classes will give good benefits. I will meditate every morning if i do so means then the whole day will be some what relaxfull to me.

  3. I am so grateful for Godly Christian meditations.
thank you and GOD Bless you!

Love your voice too. very soothing.

  4. This is my first Christian meditation after being into yoga + Eastern stuff all my life. It is the best enjoyment of Jesus, I find, with the “morning solution” relaxation … like the beautiful cathedral in the city … like the soft angels’ wings wipe away distress. I’ll keep exploring.

I enjoyed your guided meditation very much and plan on listening to more! I noticed it has been over a year since anything new was added to the archives, and I hope I have not discovered this site after you have stopped adding to it. A couple of comments: the visualization of the garden and trees really helped me open my heart to this scripture passage. I would, however, have appreciated a longer silent pause between the different fruits of the spirit and of the flesh during the last section of the meditation. This is the application of the wonderful visualization, but I didn’t feel like I had sufficient time to truly digest my life in light of each fruit. Great meditation and thank you very much!

  6. Randall – I’m still here and this is still an active project. I’m glad you found the site and are enjoying the meditations. The delay in publishing new meditations is due to a number of factors in my life. However as I’ve recently been finishing the writing for the next one (The Fruit of the Spirit is Gentleness) I realize that God has been working in my life during that time to create an understanding of gentleness that I didn’t have a year ago. So, all things in His time; this is His work.

Concerning evaluating your life in light of the fruit of the Spirit, you may want to listen to #24 which focuses on them collectively, and numbers 25-33 that focuses on individual manifestations of that fruit.

  7. I thank God for you. In your obedience to His call on your life you have given many Christian worshippers back the art of meditation that Satan had stolen from us! I am grateful to God for answering my prayer request for mindful worship meditation and for my daughter whom God used to introduce me to your site on Mother’s Day. Best Mother’s Day gift ever! God bless you to continue with many more scriptural meditations. There is a hunger in the land…” feed My sheep!”

  8. bbjab12 – I’m so humbled by your words. I don’t know what to say. Thank you.

  10. Hector – I’m glad you’re enjoying these! Unfortunately, I’m not aware of anything similar in any other language.

  11. Hi, I’m SO glad i listened to this.
I’ve been really struggling with keeping up my faith and obedience to God at uni and decided that meditating on Gods word is a start and managed to end up here. This was an absolutely perfect thing for me to hear and reflect on today and i intend on listening to them daily.
I just really want to thank you for taking the time to produce these, its such an encouragement and its so clear to hear God speaking through you, its great:)
